courts & couture blog

You’ve just found your go-to spot for all things pickleball—where fitness, fun, and community come together.

Here at Courts & Couture, we believe pickleball is more than a game—it's a gateway to joy and lasting friendships. So grab your paddle, and let's dive into a world of play, tips, and stories that inspire.

How to Recenter This August

It’s five o’clock in the afternoon, I’m standing in the kitchen, bluegrass playing in the background, slicing zucchini and savoring this late summer, slow moment. No one’s in my house and it’s my chance to name it – I’m ready for routine.

There’s something about rhythms that I crave. They bring order and expectation – like waves slowly rolling into the shoreline. You know it’s coming, something beautifully predictable… and by August, I feel it in my bones. The novelty of a carefree summer has waned, and I’m ready for a little more structure.

I think that’s one of the reasons I love living in North Carolina – the seasons are defined enough that I can feel the shift, but mild enough that I’m not desperate to move on. Does this resonate with you, too?

This month at Courts & Couture, our word is RECENTER, and we are living into it in so many ways. There’s a stillness to late summer that invites us to get a little more grounded – not in a fix-it-all, hustle-harder kind of way, but in a Be Still and Know that I am God kind of way. (Psalm 46:10)

If you’re craving a return to rhythm, here are a few simple ways to recenter your body, mind, and spirit this month:

7 Ways to Get Recentered This August

1. Morning Moments Before the Rush
Start the day with 10 quiet minutes—coffee on the porch, prayer, or journaling. Let peace set the tone before the schedules and screens roll in.

2. Court Time as Sacred Space
Play with purpose. Use your time on the pickleball court not just for fitness, but for presence, confidence, and joy. Let movement become your joy.

3. Reconnect with Your Circle
Text a friend who fills your cup. Invite her to open play, a slow Saturday brunch, or just sit on your front porch with her and take it all in. Sometimes the best reset is a heart-to-heart.

4. Create a “No” List
What are you not available for this season? Overcommitment, comparison, clutter? Getting clear on your “no” helps protect the space for what truly matters.

5. Simplify One Space
Choose one drawer, shelf, or corner and clear it out. Physical space creates mental space – and even a tidy tray or closet can offer a surprising sense of calm.

6. Walk Without a Podcast
Skip the AirPods and take a quiet walk. Notice what’s blooming, what’s shifting. Let your thoughts wander and your breath deepen.

7. Revisit Your Why
Instead of making a to-do list, jot down three “whys” for this season. Why are you showing up? What do you want to feel more of? Clarity gives perspective.

Some of my most recentering moments happen through community. Savoring a slow rally, sharing a meal, laughing between points – it’s not just about the game. It’s about feeling known, connected, and grounded.

So, consider this your invitation to stay connected.

If you’re craving more of that this month, we’d love for you to join us at our Back to School Clinic with Meray on Sunday, August 24th at Lifetime Fitness Raleigh. We’ll get back into rhythm on the court, then gather for dinner at Tzatziki’s Mediterranean Café – because sometimes, the best reset is a paddle in hand and good conversation around the table.

👉 RSVP here and we’ll send the details!?

Let this be your invitation to show up, breathe deep, and return to what matters – with a little movement and a lot of heart.

Here’s to slow shifts, new rhythms, and making space for what really matters.
